The
Whiterock Log Cabin lies about ¼ mile east of the River House, on a ridge
line studded with burr oak. The cabin is falling in, a badger lives under the foundation
and guests should not try to enter the cabin. The cabin was
built in 1933 by Delbert Brutsche. Delbert lost 120 acres in the
Depression but managed to hold onto the 40 acres where the cabin is located. The
cabin was built of logs cut nearby and was
double timbered in the living room. A summer kitchen and the loft were plastered.
Members of the family played instruments in the local band which performed at the River
House Dance Barn.. Of course, the Brutsche children attended Whiterock School.
Delbert moved to Omaha in the late 1930s and his sons lived at the cabin until a few years
after World War II.
