SWIMMING
The fabulous municipal aquatic center opened in 1998. It offers a zero-entry beach, fountain, water slide and a grassy lawn for sunbathing. Coon Rapids continued its long history of support for swimming pools by passing a bond issue of almost $1 million to build this new pool. We are proud of it! Daily admission is $3/person (under 2, free) and the facility is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
The Coon Rapids Golf Course offers nine, well-maintained holes. Green fees for nine holes are $6 on weekdays and $10 on weekends. Carts are available for rent. Call 712-999-2880 for more information. There are several other nice courses in the surrounding communities, and the Resort staff can help you arrange tee times.
Coon Rapids offers two lighted tennis courts, available to the public without charge.
Coon Bowl is a newly renovated alley with clean fun and good music. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday are league nights. Adults $1.50 per game, children $1.25; shoes $.75. The bowling alley has a bar and good food. If you want to make the "scene" in Coon Rapids, this is the place to go! Call 712-999-2281 for more information.
The Recreation Center is open Saturday and Sunday afternoons in the winter, for pickup basketball and other activities. Adults $2; children discounts.
A lovely two-mile asphalt trail for hiking or biking follows the river.. Riverside Park is a wooded park along the river, with a shelter house, a swinging bridge over the river and access to the trail. An adjacent campground has 12 camping pads for RVs, equipped with water and electricity. The cost is $4 per night without electricity, or $6 per night with electricity. The historic cemetery is just next door.The City Park, next to Coon Rapids High School on the west side of town, is an open park with swimming pool, ball diamonds, tennis courts, playground equipment and open spaces.
Roadside Park is across the road from the Garst Farm Lodge. It sports a brand new boat ramp to the river, and native plantings, thanks to a Living Roadway Trust grant.
