WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND WARNINGS
for Canoeing at Garst Farm Resorts

Canoeing can be a dangerous activity, especially on a river. The Middle Fork of the Raccoon River near Coon Rapids is generally shallow enough for adults to stand in. However, river depth can be very uneven and there are deep holes in places. Obviously, at certain times of the year and after rains the river can run very high and deep. Obstacles including rocks, log jams and fallen or overhanging trees are common. These obstacles can cause the canoe to overturn, causing the risk of injury or drowning. Weather conditions can change rapidly, and flooding increases the risks of accidents, injury and death.

The undersigned hereby acknowledges and accepts these and other unnamed risks and agrees to hold Whiterock  Resort and its employees free of all liability for this dangerous activity.  The Renter assumes all inherent risks for participating in this activity. Although Resort Staff will provide a general overview of river conditions at the time the boat is launched, it is the responsibility of the renting party to make its own assessment of river conditions, given the age and experience of the people in the renter’s party.

If at any time the Renter feels that river conditions are dangerous, they are encouraged to disembark, pull the canoes to the upper bank, leave the equipment in the boat, and walk out.  If thunderstorms with lightning occur, get off the river until the storm passes.  If conditions cause you to cut your trip short, please notify Whiterock Resort as soon as possible.  The closest landings to land routes are:   North of the Highway 141 bridge near Coon Rapids, land on the west (right) bank to reach the nearest road; South of the Highway 141 bridge, land on the east (left) bank to reach the nearest road; In the sandstone bluffs area (the lower part of the trip),   pull out and follow the river downstream to the Campground.

A life preserver is provided for each person in the party, and it is advised that all canoeist wear the life preservers at all times. It is especially important that all children and all people who cannot swim wear their life preserver at all times.

To protect your feet from sharp and dangerous objects on the river bottom, we heartily recommend canoeists wear shoes that tie.  It's also highly recommended that you leave behind wallets, watches, expensive cameras, etc., and that you tie all objects that do not float to the canoe.  .
